SCALING AND POLISHING

Scaling and polishing are essential dental procedures aimed at maintaining oral health and preventing gum disease by removing the biofilm and calculus. Gingivitis, a common issue, can escalate into severe periodontitis, potentially leading to tooth loss if left untreated.

Air Polishing is a technique that combines a specially formulated polishing powder, water, and air at high speed. It is particularly beneficial for patients who smoke or frequently consume tea and coffee, as it effectively removes stains and debris.

When the gum bleeds, it is a warning sign of gum inflammation- gingivitis. This is caused by the accumulation of plaque/ tartar at gumline. Scaling and polishing helps to remove the dirt and improve the problems.

RESTORATION (FILLING)

A treatment that is used to remove the cavity/ decayed tooth structure and restore the function, integrity and aesthetic of the missing tooth structure. There are few types of fillings (Tooth-coloured), for examples: Composite, Glass-ionomer Cement (GIC) (fluoride releasing properties).

Fillings are used to repair a hole in a tooth caused by decay. The deeper the hole, the closer it will be to the pulp which supplies blood and nerve sensation to the tooth. Slight sensitivity and discomfort are normal after a deep filling is done. However if the sign & symptoms worsens over time, immediately visit your dentist as the pulp might have been injured before/ during the treatment. Further management will be needed.

PAEDIATRIC DENTISTRY (CHILDREN DENTISTRY)

Paediatric Dentistry (Children Dentistry) provides specialized care for infants, children, and adolescents, with a focus on preventing dental problems and treating oral conditions unique to younger patients. Early interventions like fluoride treatments, sealants, and corrective measures for misaligned teeth are emphasized to ensure proper dental development. Paediatric dentists also educate children and parents on proper oral hygiene to prevent cavities and other issues.

Toddler can start their check up even before they have any tooth. Dr will examine the soft tissue like tongue, frenum and their gum pad.

CROWN AND BRIDGE

A dental crown (or known as capping), covers the entire tooth, replacing its outer layer of enamel with a new material. A crown is contoured and sized similarly to a natural tooth, and they come into contact with the opposite tooth in a normal way, allowing for food to be chewed properly for a better function.
A bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth, when the functioning teeth are available on either one side or both sides of the missing tooth. The difference is that the bridge connects the crowns to a pontic (fake tooth replacement) in the missing tooth space.
